Speakers
Dr. Rania Awaad
Dr. Rania Awaad M.D., is a Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine where she is the Director of the Stanford Muslim Mental Health & Islamic Psychology Lab, Associate Chief of the Division of Public Mental Health and Population Sciences, and Co-Chief of the Diversity and Cultural Mental Health Section. On a community level, she is the Executive Director of the holistic mental health nonprofit Maristan.org. In addition, she serves as the Director of The Rahmah Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating Muslim women and girls, and as a Senior Fellow at Yaqeen Institute and ISPU. She has previously served as the founding Clinical Director of the Khalil Center-San Francisco as well as a Professor of Islamic Law at Zaytuna College. Prior to studying medicine, she pursued classical Islamic studies in Damascus, Syria and holds certifications (ijaza) in Qur’an, Islamic Law and other branches of the Islamic Sciences.
Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed
Yasmin Mogahed received her B.S. Degree in Psychology and her Masters in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After completing her graduate work, she taught Islamic Studies and served as a youth coordinator. She also worked as a writing instructor at Cardinal Stritch University and a staff columnist for the Islam section of InFocus News. Currently she’s an instructor for AlMaghrib Institute, a writer for the Huffington Post, an international speaker, and author, where she focuses most of her work on spiritual and personal development. Yasmin recently released her new book, Reclaim Your Heart, which is now available worldwide. Dr. Tesneem Alkiek
Tesneem obtained her undergraduate degree in Early Christianity and Islamic Studies from the University of Michigan. She went on to complete her Ph.D. in Islamic Studies at Georgetown University with a focus on Islamic law. Tesneem currently serves as the Director of Expanded Learning where she works with her team to create curricula and other resources for communities to engage with Yaqeen’s research. She is also a Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Rutgers University-Camden.
Ustadha Zanoor Yusuf
Ustadha Zanoor was born and raised in Seattle, WA. From a young age she attended a pioneering Islamic scholars program at Darul Uloom Seattle and subsequently completed the final two years of Alimah program in Chicago. After her return she taught the Alima program for two years at her alma matter. She earned her Bachelors degree in Law, Economics & Public Policy, and Community Psychology, double majoring with honors. Simultaneously, while being a full time instructor at Darul Uloom Seattle, Ustadha remained passionately engaged in serving her community through weekly sisters halaqaat, Sunday school, Maktab programs, and serving as a Youth-Director for the Islamic Center of Eastside. After relocating to Michigan, Ustadha Zanoor assisted in the establishment of Muneer Academy, the first English medium Alima Program in Michigan. She joined Miftaah Institute in 2018, as the Institutes first female scholar. Ustadha Zanoor is known for her commitment to excellence, ability to connect with others, and as a true Seattlite, her love of cool bipolar weather.
